Helen's Dome After the Rain
Helen's Dome After the Rain is a 24" by 34" oil painting on canvas.
Early morning sun pinkens the horizon on the Rincons after rain has muted the desert colors. I love exploring the palette of colors these conditions produce. I like the feeling of this painting; it comes very close to expressing what I was trying to do.
Agave
When we first moved to Tucson, I would run by this dying agave and was struck by the beauty of the young replacement stepping up to fill the void that would be left. The burnt browns of the dying plant were a sharp contrast to the cool tones of the younger plant.
Nogales Sunlight
Nogales Sunlight is a 16" by 20" prismacolor pencil drawing.
A woman relaxing on a bench in the warmth. I was drawn to the simple beauty of her posture and the colors and patterns of the scene. She emanates a serenity I tried to capture by the repetition of simple patterns and color in the work. This piece was featured in the CPSA Signature Showcase Invitational in the Cornell Museum in Delray Beach, Florida from March 16 - June 4, 2006.

Cactus Forest
Cactus Forest is a 24" by 30" oil painting on canvas.
The sun rising over the Rincons washed out the horizon and abstracted the blooms on the foreground creosote bushes, lending an abstract element to the realism.
Ocotillo Screen
Ocotillo Screen is a 16" by 20" pencil drawing.
A woman making fry bread at San Javier Mission was behind a bunch of ocotillo; the pattern intrigued me to use it as a means of exploring the negative spaces behind it and as a vertical division of the composition which occurred naturally. I loved the beauty and peace she exuded as she went about her work.
